If I Were In Charge of the World If I were in charge of the world I'd cancel oatmeal, Monday mornings, Allergy shots, and also Sara Steinberg. If I were in charge of the world There'd be brighter night lights, Healthier hamsters, and Basketball baskets forty-eight inches lower. If I were in charge of the world You wouldn't have lonely. You wouldn't have clean. You wouldn't have bedtimes. Or "Don't punch your sister." You wouldn't even have sisters. If I were in charge of the world A chocolate sundae with whipped cream and nuts would be a vegetable. All 007 movies would be G. And a person who sometimes forgot to brush, And sometimes forgot to flush, Would still be allowed to be In charge of the world. by Judith Viorst |

The Sloth
In moving -slow he has no Peer. You ask him something in his ear, He thinks about it for a year; And , then, before he says a word There, upside down(unlike bird), He will assume that you have heard A most Ex-as-per-at-ing Lug. But should you call his manner smug, He'll sigh and give his Branch a hug ; Then off again to sleep he goes, still swaying gently by his toes, And you just know he know he knows. by Theodore Roethke |

Your World
Your world is as big as you make it. I know, for I used to abide In the narrowest nest in a corner, My wings pressing close to my side. But I sighted the distant horizon Where the skyline encircled the sea And I throbbed with a burning desire To travel this immensity. I battered the cordons around me And cradled my wings on the breeze, Then soared to the uttermost reaches With rapture, with power, with ease! By Georgia Douglas Johnson |

Homeless Eating
Fresh produce gets expensive, even the frozen veggies are too high so he surfs in the canned isle eating all the baked beans and slushy french green beans he can find. He eats them straight from the can, not even a microwave or a hot fire, hasn't seen a green in forever, despises the California persuasion of healthy eating and would trade a salad for some sloppy beans in a heart beat, they are great when on the go, carries a can opener in his bag, always ready, plastic fork, and bottle of hot sauce he got off some table of an open aired restaurant, flavors everything, its delicious, this is dining with poor. by Christopher Staab |

I never saw a Purple Cow, I never hope to see one, But I can tell you, anyhow, I’d rather see than be one! by Gelett Burgess |

Africa's Child
My home, a mud hut, and my garden, just sand, my view, a red sunset, staining the land. My chore, to fetch water, many, many miles away, watch out, the wild animals, at the closing of day. My toys, a few marbles, and a battered football, my clothes, second-hand, and my shoes, not at all. My dinner just porridge, but it tastes good, my friends, almost everyone, in my neighbourhood. My life, not so bad, it’s all that I know, but if they offered me more, I wouldn’t say no. by JT |
